Rescue
Long term goal to open our own shelter and rescue network.
Current Efforts
K&L is a new and small animal welfare organization with big dreams of opening our own shelter one day. To begin providing assistance to the community and our furry (and some not so furry) friends who deserve the best care in the world.

King's Health & Hope Grant
The KHHG is for any pet parent or foster who requires financial assistance. Eligible recipients can receive funding for medical expenses, emergency costs, or even to help cover pet rent and/or food.

Legend's Hero Pet Fund
The LHPF is a special grant set aside for our service members, veterans, and first responders. This grant covers things like PCS costs, pet sitters for long underways/field days, medical expenses, and more.

Dog Training
COMING SOON! K&L is currently building a network of certified and experienced dog trainers from around the country (and soon the globe) who have donated hours of training to K&L and our network of patrons.
Future Efforts
1 / Dog Training
We hope to bring together a network of certified trainers who can provide free training to pet parents around the world. The hope is through meaningful training (of humans and their pets), less dogs will be surrendered to shelters for behavioral issues.
2 / Animal Rescue
As we at K&L navigate the animal rescue space, we are diligently working with experts in fields like veterinary medicine, epidemiology, immunology, and behaviorist to gather all of the information we need to not just begin rescuing place or creating a safe space for them; but creating a space where they can thrive.
3 / Microchipping and Identification
While we develop the skills needed to run an effective animal rescue and welfare organization, we also hope to offer microchipping services. Microchipping for pets can reduce the number of lost animals and increase the chances of reunification with their owners.
4 / Adoption Services
We have already begun sharing the stories of pets from all over the world to help them find their forever homes. By facilitating the adoption process, we can help these wonderful animals find loving, permanent homes.
5 / Community Awareness and Education
There are a lot of misconceptions about rescue pets, certain breeds, and types of animal that make finding forever homes a challenge. There are also lots of home care techniques from responsible nutrition to awareness around best practices that are not taught enough by practitioners. By conducting awareness campaigns and educational programs, we can promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
6 / Legislative Advocacy
K&L Animal Rescue is a proud animal welfare organization registered as such and capable of promoting real change. Advocating for animal rights and welfare legislation to enhance the well-being of pets and curtail unethical breeding practices (#AdoptDontShop). This includes conducting inquiries and investigations into reports of animal welfare concerns and working with local authorities to reduce harm to animals.
7 / Veteran Outreach Program
K&L was founded by, Jessie Virga, a proud Navy veteran and civil servant. It is through her dedication to not only animals but her fellow veterans, that K&L is developing programs to connect military veterans with shelter pets for companionship and mutual support. We hope to pair these efforts with PTSD support groups and mental health services.
8 / International Rescue Efforts
We have big dreams here at K&L. Our future plans include expanding rescue operations beyond the US to help animals in different countries, emphasizing a global approach to animal welfare.
